Coughing, Caring, and Contemplating

Hiatus #2. Okay Ally, I'm back.

Coughing:
Man. I last reported that Amelia was better and I shipped her off to daycare (still on her antibiotic) with the best of intentions. Rotten decision because according to her doctor, she caught something else and has had another ten day (and counting) "virus." I am not sure why this term all of the sudden annoys me. It never has before, but I just want her better. There is nothing that can help her cough or dry up her ever running nose. I have the same "virus" and I feel so guilty when I blow my nose and feel relief. My first thought is, Poor Amelia can't blow her nose and get any relief at all. So, we are living in the land of wiping and suctioning, wiping and suctioning. I called the doctor again to inform him that she wasn't getting any better and he informed me that this could last four weeks. That seemed forever to me, but this is already week three, so hopefully the days of bright, dry eyes, a dry nose, and a cough free nap are in our future.

Adam and Joanna, and Aaron and Rebecca came over to celebrate the fact that Aaron and Ross PASSED THEIR TEST!! (Adam doesn't have his score back yet) I am so proud of Ross---he scored WAY over passing and this will be a great asset when applying to residency :)Amelia went to Deacon's birthday party and had a blast. This was in between her sicknesses and she was having a great day. She was the only girl at the party, but she had no problem with that. In fact, she seemed to enjoy it. Uh-oh.Minnie Mouse is still a big hit, and the shirt Great Aunt Jen brought back from Disneyworld fits too! Amelia loves presents that people bring her from their trips. Hint to all.

Caring:
This nearly month long sickness and fever and yuck has been yet another eye-opener of how caring our friends and family are. I pray that I show that same loving heart to those in need.

Mom and Dad came down this past weekend to let me get some sleep since I had spent several nights up with Amelia coughing. I was delighted and so were they. Oh and Ross was too, because, of course, golf was a necessary item of the weekend for he and dad. Amelia recognized Gammy and Gampy and it was so neat to see her little face process who they were.
G and Pa also came down that Sunday to see Amelia and check on us. Amelia loved playing peek-a-boo behind the couch with Pa.

Then, Mom and Barbara BOTH came back down this week on two different days to watch Amelia while I was at work. More on that in the contemplation section. I was so grateful to them for doing this. G brought Amelia a soccer ball and she loves it.

Oh, and she is all about playing soccer in a skirt. Because when you can CRAWL it doesn't matter. That's right, Amelia started crawling while Mom and Dad were here. She is going forward and I am so proud of her. It is a blast to watch her actually be able to get to things.

Our friends here have been so caring also. It is hard not having family close enough just to run over. Amy and Ashley, thanks for checking on us and volunteering to help out when you have little ones of your own. I cherish our friendship. Reb and Aaron took me to the E.R. when we couldn't get my fever down and sat with me until the wee morning while Ross was home with Amelia. We owe a lot of people big time.

Contemplating:
This is a serious section and not too many pictures will probably lend themselves to the topics of discussion, but I will try to throw them in so that I don't lose you. Actually this post is so long, most of you are probably gone, but it is more for my benefit anyway.

Ross and I have been contemplating some major life changes. Contemplating cash, comfort, conscience, care. Yeah, I love alliteration. We pulled Amelia from daycare after several issues and she is staying with a wonderful person in her home. I am very pleased with her being there. However, her babysitter got very sick, as did her little girl. So, Amelia definitely wasn't in the position to stay over there this week, thus putting me in a big bind. I took off Monday, Thursday, and today. Mom and Barb filled in Tues and Wed.

Whew, what a start to the school year. Hence the contemplation. What kind of teacher am I being? Even when I am present, I am far from present. More on this in a coming post.

I am also contemplating breast feeding and its end. The medicine I am on is not safe for Amelia, so I am pumping and tossing my milk. However, I am not doing this often enough and not producing enough milk anymore. The meds also seem to be drying me up. Sad day. Honestly, I have been so emotional over this. Breastfeeding has become a beautiful thing to me. It has actually become the picture that was painted to me in the beginning that I found inconceivable. It is something only Amelia and I share. No one can help with it and no one comforts her like I do. Darn it. Sad times.

It is hard for me to imagine how much God loves us. I have often struggled with understanding the depths of it. Now that I have a child, I just cannot fathom that he loves me even more than I love her. And even though it is hard to imagine, it has truly helped me realize the enormity of how much he cares for us, hurts with us, longs for us, and loves us. I know this journey of parenthood will be tough, but I am praying to continually become more like Him so that I can show Amelia grace and mercy.

Love.

Sections

I feel like I am living my life section by section. One thing at a time. Most sections are Amelia, and I would not have it any other way. In fact, my little sweetie pie face is SIX MONTHS OLD!

It is hard to believe that six months ago she wasn't even here yet. We didn't know the impact that she would have on our lives and no matter how often or with how much intensity someone told me that she would change things forever---I was clueless.

At six months old, Amelia is
--sitting up (falling over less and less)
--smiling and giggling
--recognizing mom and dad
--babbling sounds that she puts together (dadadada a lot)
--reaching for everything
--eating an entire container of baby food in one sitting
--loving her exersaucer
--almost 15 pounds
--not sleeping in her bed
--stealing the show with her blue eyes
--jumping, jumping, jumping

Mom and Dad came down to see us last Friday and that was a great surprise. Mom watched Amelia so that I could finish up my classroom, and Dad and Ross.. Hmm.. what did those two do? Oh yeah, they played golf.
And, if that surprise wasn't great enough, Steph and Derek came the very next day! They spent the night with us on their way home from Dallas. On their trip they bought some awesome stuff at Ikea for their new house. I am sure Derek will post some pics of their new place soon. One would hope anyway...right Derek?

We had a great time and from this photo, you would never know it, but Amelia had to take a trip to the after hours clinic at Baptist Hospital. She started running a fever Saturday night and was coughing horribly. Her eye was matted and her nose was running. I was losing it. They did x-rays, tested for swine flu, drew blood---the works. It was heart wrenching. She was the saddest little girl ever and it was at least 12:30 a.m. before we got out of there. The diagnosis was bronchitis and some antibiotics. We went for a follow up visit with her doctor and she is doing much better now. Scary.

Daycare. Spit and Hiss.

So, I went on a small hiatus after someone so recklessly hijacked my blog, but I will pay some attention to his post. Wordle really is a fun site. You go to www.wordle.net and either enter the text you want wordled or enter the website in the blank that you want wordled.

What a sweet view I have when I ride in the back with Amelia Claire. Doesn't her hair look super red in this picture??
School went pretty well the first week, but honestly that is a section that I am not putting too much time into yet. My life has shifted. Been turned upside down. Changed. I know that I will still put a valiant effort into teaching, but it just isn't as high on my priority list.

Showing Amelia that she is loved is a section that I devote a huge amount of time to, as does Ross, and thankfully, so does our entire family. She is one loved little lady.
We moved this rocking chair into Amelia's room and she is proud as punch about it.

Another thing that has her tickled is this jumper that Ross bought her. She absolutely loves it and we laugh hysterically watching her. Her legs are so strong. The pillow is there to keep her from bonking her head on the door frame.
Amelia got her first present from Disney World from her Great Aunt Jen. She loved Minnie's yellow shoes and tried to cram them in her mouth immediately.
Uncle Derek left his pajamas in Dallas. Muuuuuaaaaaaahhh.

Okay let me explain. Heather has been doing this thing to her blog called wordle and it takes the words most used in your blog and plots them in a graph. The larger the word on the graph, the more often it was used in her blog. I felt there were three words that weren't large enough for my taste...can you guess which three, but I do have to say I was beat out by Amelia which I am okay with. You have to admit she is the cutest thing in the world. I gave her a few points too. Sorry for taking up the space but some things in life are worth it! By the way she has no idea I posted this so I cannot wait to her reaction. Ha...Ha...Ha...Ha... She is way too good to me for being such a big pill.

Harumph

I never make the sound "harumph" but I feel that it appropriately describes how I feel about daycare. Are you sick of hearing about daycare yet? Harumph. That means that I don't care. Amelia was given a blanket that wasn't hers to sleep with (I asked that she have NO blankets), has a runny nose, and was given a mum-mum. Yeah..I've never heard of them either.

However, she was smiling when I picked her up and is currently taking a nap in her crib. Give and take--give and take.

Here is our new chair. Sweeeeet, huh? Look back at the previous post and it will appear even sweeter. We love it and it slept wonderfully last night.

Amelia had a swim date with Owen, and as you can see, she couldn't take her eyes off of his one piece zipper swim suit. They had a great time swimming and Owen showed off and put his head under. He has been taking swimming lessons and Amelia was way impressed.

I should be: doing devotional, cleaning kitchen, getting stuff ready for daycare tomorrow, doing laundry, recording important shows on DVR, checking facebook, doing lesson plans, or planning supper. I think I will start with recording important shows on DVR.

OHH. My birthday present came in. It is a necklace that says "Amelia" on the front and "2-21-09" on the back. Cutie pie.

OHH. Ross got Amelia the cutest mobile at a consignment sale. $10 and I love it to pieces. We have been unable to find one that we like. It retails for $132 according the net. Woah.

So...

Amelia is at daycare today for the ENTIRE day. A full 7-3:30. I am so over working on my classroom. I am so over creating any lesson plans that are intriguing and exciting (not that I did). I am so over thinking positive thoughts about Amelia playing with other kids and socializing (although they have helped today). I just want to pick her up and I am pretty sure that I will not make it until 3:30. Tomorrow I won't have a choice because school starts, but today, I so do.

Since I sleep in a chair many, many, many nights, the current one we have is just not fitting the bill. It is cute and modern and glides with ease, but it doesn't recline, doesn't support my neck, and doesn't allow me to walk well the next morning. SO, Ross's mom found this chair on a steal and gave it to us. It rocks and reclines and has a high back. It is also very ugly. We got some fabric at Hobby Lobby and pictures of its newness will be posted later today. It is being delivered shortly :)

Hmm. Going to get Amelia. Enough is enough.

TIME

Time is funny. Or maybe it is humans that are funny. Never enough--too much. Silly time. Silly humans. All I know is that it is precious and fleeting. In just a few short days of daycare, time has a new meaning. When I pick her up, I just stare at Amelia's big blue eyes and search her smile for that hidden dimple and time stands still. Completely still.

So, where were we? After our birthday festivities and girls night out, it was class reunion time. I will spare you the details of how awkward I thought this event might be, but just know that I had anticipated some very weird conversations or lack thereof. WRONG. It was so fun and great to see everyone. Genuinely..everyone. A blast for sure and the Class of 99 had a rockin turn out both days of events.

Jaimi looked gorgeous and Amelia got to play with her sweet new daughter, Jordan. We used to spend hours and hours together worrying about boys and basketball games and homework and now we have kids and husbands. Time. Man.

I've been friends with this lady since kindergarten and I am so proud to say that she is Exactly The Same. :) Time knows little difference in her spunky outlook on life then and now.

Mom got Amelia this sweet outfit and she wanted to stand like a big girl to show it off. She is still crawling backwards, but no forward movement to be seen. It is so neat watching her discover new things every single day. Ross and I are addicted to Miss Spider's Sunny Patch Friends, and we think Amelia enjoys watching it too. Seriously the cutest little show on the Noggin channel.
We stopped by to see Mammaw before heading back to Little Rock and she got to see Amelia eating her yummy carrots. Time has been good to Mammaw. 89 and going strong--living alone and making jokes. Amelia loved hanging out with her for the afternoon.
Then it was back for another week of intense studying for Ross and as of yesterday the test is DONE. He should have his results in four weeks, but he feels pretty good about it. Thank you to those who were praying for his confidence and stamina as he tackled this eight hour beast. We had a little "Congrats, the test is over" party for he and Aaron last night. The menu consisted of enchiladas, rice, cheese dip, salsa, bean dip, chips and a delish cake (made by Reb). Amelia was in a delightful mood and probably thought the party was for her ha. She and Rebecca got in some good play time. So, the time has come next week for daycare from 7-3. The full day. Sigh. It is just so hard. I know millions of people have done it, I know it will be fine, I know..I know..I know. However, that doesn't change the fact that I don't want to send her. Her teacher got her to take a 30 minute nap IN HER BED. She didn't rock her first; she just put her in there awake. I was like, "Umm..my child?" Haha. I hope it is great fun for her because it isn't great fun for her mommy.

Time to go. See ya soon. With love from the Exer Saucer.

Three Hours Down

Amelia went to daycare for three hours today. The longest three hours of my life. The report was a good one though. She drank her bottle and went to sleep in her swing by herself!! As I was telling her teacher that she doesn't sleep in her bed, the shock was very present in her face. She said, "Oh, we will get her to sleep in her bed." Happy day if that ends up working out. All I really care about is that Amelia is safe and loved. Thursday and Friday we will try five hours.

Tomorrow I am keeping her with me. Selfish. I kissed her so many times when I picked her up that she pulled away and just looked at me. "Mom, what are you doing silly woman?"

Class reunion update to follow. I am just flying high and had to report.
